Cohen gets eight more days in detention

PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten (April 20, 2015)Kevyn Cohen, (32), driver in the hit-and-run accident that killed businessman Ramesh Manek, has been remanded to prison for another eight days by the judge of instruction on Monday morning. The prolonged detention is to allow the continued investigation by police.

Cohen (32), son of the owner Platinum, turned himself in to police hours after the accident which took place on Airport Road in the vicinity of Zee Best Bakery.

Cohen is said to have hit and killed Manek, who was on a morning fitness walk, with his Hummer. He fled the scene only to turn him in later to police.

Cohen’s lawyer is former prosecutor Cor Merx.

Meanwhile in the Bishop Hill hit-and-run case, suspect Alexander Dwarkasing has been released from pre-trial detention pending his court case. Dwarkasing knocked down and killed a Bishop Hill resident David CHARLES  early one morning when he was taking out his trash.
