INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION TRIP MADE POSSIBLE THROUGH BUSINESS PARTICIPATION

1953

Philipsburg, St Maarten — A group of USM Hospitality and Tourism Management students will be going on a study tour to Monroe College in New York at the end of May.

This tour is an integral part of their curriculum, in which the students will not only be exposed to a completely different culture, but they will also work together on projects with students of Monroe College. During their intense program they will, amongst others, be participating in classes on: Restaurant Operations; Sales & Marketing; and Food & Beverage Labor Control.

In order to finance this trip, the students involved have approached the St. Maarten business community, to find sponsors. The willingness and cooperation of the businesses has been really impressive. Wherein Princess Juliana International Airport really stood out, and became the main sponsor of this trip. In the photo PJIA’s Marketing Coordinator, Ms. Magdiona Gumbs (middle) hands over a check to USM’s Hospitality and Tourism Management students Angelique Dollison (left) and Sifra Echteld (right).

It is really great to see that the business community, not only understands the importance of tertiary education on the island, but is also willing to contribute towards the realization of it!
