Philipsburg, Sint Maarten — The United People’s Party (UP) board recently met to discuss a number of pressing issues inclusive of a recent statement found on the online news site SMN-News.
“We the board of the UP board would like to denounce a recent statement made on one of the local online media outlets. The statement alluded to the relations between the UP board, the UP leadership and Prime Minister.”
According to the news site SMN-news on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 the following was stated, “On another note a member of the UPP board said that they are at loss because the Prime Minister of St. Maarten refused to meet with them to discuss key issues affecting St. Maarten and that the Prime Minister informed them that the only person he meets with and take orders from is the leader of the UPP Theodore Heyliger.”
The UP board went on to say, “We believe statements created without the UP board’s knowledge only starts to tear the solid foundation of our country’s democracy and creates unnecessary political confusion. We are deeply disappointed by the lack of true journalism not being displayed by not seeking an official communication instead of publishing random banter.”
“We hereby state clearly that no member of our board has made such a statement,” the UP board concluded.
