MARIGOT, Saint Martin — June 16, 2015—Grand Case—Residents and tourists of all ages are welcome to continue entering the 2015 Heritage Photo Contest, announced the Les Fruits de Mer Association. An official extension of the entry deadline to June 30th has been approved to allow more people to share their photography and ideas about the island. The Heritage Photo Contest and Exhibition was developed by Les Fruits de Mer to showcase art created here on St. Martin/St. Maarten, and to engage residents–especially kids–in thinking about their heritage.
The theme of this year’s contest, “Neighborhoods,” was selected to inspire entrants to explore and focus on the places and people that mean the most to them, reflecting the broader heritage of the island by zooming in on the details that make each corner of the island unique. Submissions received so far currently showcase over 25 distinct neighborhoods on the island.
“The online gallery for this year’s contest features some amazing images and stories,” says Les Fruits de Mer President Jenn Yerkes, “with a theme like Neighborhoods, we want to make sure each unique corner of the island is represented, so we are giving folks a little extra time to make that happen.”
Entry is free, open to all ages, and people can enter as many times as they like. The Heritage Gallery of current entries and all contest information, including how to enter, can be found at http://www.lesfruitsdemer.com/ category/neighborhoods/.
All qualifying entries will go on display in the online Heritage Gallery. Judging will take place after the submissions period ends, and selected entries will be featured in the Heritage Photo Exhibition, which will be open to the public. Awards will be given for the winning entries in three categories: Adult, Under 18 and People’s Choice.
