PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — Thursday Public Prosecutors Maarten Noordzij en Karola van Nie organized a legal master class for a group of (head)inspectors of the Sint Maarten policeforce (KPSM), who also perform the role of “hulpofficier” based on our Wetboek van Strafvordering.
They covered all kinds of legal themes, such as when can you speak of a “redelijk vermoeden van schuld”, what is the legal framework to perform a housesearch, what are exactly a suspects rights to consultation once arrested and much more. They also gave a brief introduction into the new penal code, especially on the totally revised criminal law for minors.
A number of recent cases were discussed as well as verdicts by the “Hoge Raad”, our highest legal court.
Thanks to the input of all the participants, both from the AD as the JD, the prosecutors office considers it a big succes and is already looking forward to the next session
