Philipsburg– The University of St. Martin (USM) received a donation of two computers from Gulf Insurance Limited, a member of the Assuria Group.
In USM’s presentation to Parliament, it was mentioned that they are in the process of restructuring and upgrading its IT infrastructure. It was also stressed that a large amount of funding is required to execute this project.
Branch Manager of Gulf Insurance Limited, Mr. Robert de Vries stated that his company as a longstanding insurer on the island seeks ways to contribute to the community as a corporate and social responsibility. The company recognizes the need for educational advancement within the community and chose USM, as the only Tertiary Education institution on the island, to assist with sponsorship.
Mr. Robert Budike, USM’s Manager of Finance and Operations, stated that the contribution of the two computers is highly appreciated. USM is working very hard on improving the IT infrastructure in order to provide its students with high quality technical services. USM is happy to know that the business community recognizes the importance of the institution development and are willing to step in with assistance, be it from the donation of products to contracting the university to train/upgrade their employees.
USM will continue its efforts in providing the island with opportunities to achieve a tertiary degree or educational advancement.
