PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport & Telecommunications Hon. Claret Connor, has taken note of Sint Maarten’s Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) to commence with a civil investigation procedure that concerns the corporate governance of the St. Maarten Harbour Group of Companies.
“The procedure embarked upon by the Public Prosecutor’s Office is part of their competence, and as such, I do hope that the St. Maarten Harbour Group of Companies will fully cooperate with this civil inquiry.
“The civil inquiry as stated by the PPO is a result of the integrity studies that have been carried out, and the PPO has deemed it necessary to begin this civil investigation into the functioning of the harbour group of companies and its subsidiaries to see if they are functioning according to their incorporated purposes,” Minister Hon. Claret Connor said on Tuesday.
According to the Civil Code of Sint Maarten, the PPO is authorized to submit a request to the Common Court of Justice of Aruba, Curacao, Sint Maarten and Bonaire, Sint Eustatius & Saba, to investigate the policies of any legal entity in Sint Maarten.
