Arrests made in robbery case in which 'Benji' was shot

PHIIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — Last night, on Monday August 10th, after days of thorough research, the members of the Investigating Team that’s handling the case of the robbery of jewellery store ‘Oro Diamante’ managed to arrest four suspects that might have something to do with the robbery and the shooting of police officer Gamali Benjamin.

The arrest took place in St. Peters area around 8.30 pm on Tuesday night.

The people that were arrested are all young male suspects in their early twenties . Three of them were arrested for hiding a wanted suspect of a severe criminal act and the fourth one was arrested because he’s suspected of being an accomplice in the murdering/man slaughter of police officer Gamali Benjamin and committing an armed robbery resulting in death.

The arrests were made without any resistance from the suspects. They were transported to the Philipsburg Police Station where they were put into custody for further investigation. In connection with sensitivity of this investigation no more information will be given at this time.
