JOHN’S, Antigua, Aug 18 2015 – Antigua and Barbuda’s contingent to the 12th edition of the Caribbean Festival of Arts (CARIFESTA), scheduled to take place in Haiti from August 21-30, will be transported to and from the festival by LIAT, The Caribbean Airline.
To facilitate a 48-member delegation to Haiti, the Government of Antigua and Barbuda has chartered one of LIAT’s ATR 42-600 aircraft. With the LIAT charter, the delegation will now have a direct flight from Antigua to Haiti and back, eliminating the much longer route via Miami.
Chief Executive Officer David Evans said “LIAT agreed to make an aircraft available for the charter after the airline was approached by the Antigua and Barbuda Government. Antigua and Barbuda is LIAT’s second largest shareholder.”
CARIFESTA, initiated in 1972, will showcase the cultural talents of residents of all the 15 member Caribbean Community (CARICOM) member states.
The Antigua & Barbuda contingent to Haiti is expected to showcase aspects of local culture, including drama, dance, music, culinary arts and literature.
