Philipsburg, August 17, 2015:  Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise was happy to welcome Cathy Heemskerk-Hassell from St. Maarten Optical N.V. to their weekly meeting. Mrs. Heemskerk-Hassell has donated five examinations and five glasses to the Rotary Sunrise to distribute to children most in need.

For the past several years Rotary Sunrise have donated glasses through the Bert Miller Fund.  A fund created in memory of Dr. Miller, an eye doctor by profession who was a regular visitor of St. Maarten as a timeshare owner at Belair Hotel. Rotary Sunrise was chosen to identify children who needed glasses but were unable to obtain them. They would therefore make the funds available to purchase the required eye glasses.

With the help of Mrs. Heemskerk-Hassell Rotary Sunrise can continue to make a difference for more children who would not have been able to acquire glasses otherwise. St. Maarten Optical N.V. which is located on the Pondfil will be making this an annual contribution.

Rotary Sunrise would like to extend thanks to Mrs. Heemskerk-Hassell and to donors of the Bert Miller Fund for helping to make it possible for us to continue to make a positive impact on the lives of St. Maarten’s youth.

The club meets at Barefoot Terrace Restaurant every Tuesday mornings at 7:00am for fellowship and breakfast.  For more information on the club visit us at sxmsunrise.org or email sunriserotary.sxm@hotmail.com, we are also on Facebook: Rotary Club of Saint Martin Sunrise.
