PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — The St. Maarten Chamber of Commerce & Industry (COCI), University of St. Martin (USM) & Bureau Telecommunication and Post St. Maarten (BTPSXM) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly support the “I AM SXM” initiative of MP Tamara Leonard whereby St. Maarten students interested in journalism and seeking a career in this field, will be educated at USM.

The course, to be offered for a period of sixteen weeks shall enable at least five eligible students to participate and be certified in the field of journalism.  The course design, content and certification will be created by USM who will also provide classroom space.  BTPSXM will make available funds to cover tuition fees and equipment expenses while COCI will make available its Biz Center facilities as well as coordinate the pre-registration and registration process for students found eligible with USM.  The progress monitoring system and conditions for students participating in the program will also be developed by COCI with USM to ensure the success of the program.

COCI, the entity representing the business community of St. Maarten, strives to support any form of socio-economic growth in St. Maarten and finds this initiative to serve this purpose.

President of COCI wishes to thank the honorable MP T. Leonard for the initiative formulated, the honorable Minister of TEATT C. Connor for the coordination undertaken, The Director of BTPSXM and the President of the University of St. Martin for their immediate collaboration and execution of the MOU.
