PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — The St. Maarten Lions Club recently hosted about 100 visitors from various Lions and Leo Clubs around the region for the 1st Cabinet Meeting at the Sonesta Maho Beach Convention Center. The meetings were chaired by 2015-2016 District Governor for Sub-District 60B Lion Marvin Grant MJF from Tortola.

The events over four days included; Welcome Cocktail Reception, Courtesy call to the Prime Minister’s Office by the District Governor and his delegation, various workshops, District Forum, Leo Forum and 1st Cabinet Meeting which was streamed live to all 70 plus clubs across the district courtesy of the Telem Group of Companies. This entire four hour meeting will be placed on the district website which is www.sub-district60b.org   
Each night the various Lions gathered in the designated Hospitality Room at the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort for dinner and dancing to the sounds of DJ Petty. Other generous sponsors for the Lions 1st Cabinet Meeting were the Government of St. Maarten, St. Maarten Tourist Bureau, SXM Airport, Sheriff Security and the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort & Casino.     
President of the St. Maarten Lions Club Lion Eldert Louisa said, “I am proud of the hard work and commitment of the St. Maarten Lions Club members under the Organizing Committee Chair PDG Lion Claudius “Toontje” Buncamper who helped make the 1st Cabinet Meeting a resounding success as all our Lions & Leo visitors had a good time”.
According to District Governor Lion Marvin Grant MJF, “One of the hot topics of the meetings included the recruitment of new and energetic young Lions for the various Clubs across the region which would assist in the carrying out new projects. Other lively discussions were financial state of the District and how this could be improved”.
The St. Maarten Lions Club will be celebrating 45 years in December 2015. A number of projects by the local club are already being planned this year. These include the Peace Poster Contest, Lion Nelson v/d Linde Seniors Party, the Annual Lion Wally Havertong Christmas Bingo Spectacular and the Lion Rudy Hoeve Health & Wellness Fair.
