GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) – The Inspectorate of the Ministry Tourism, Economic Affairs, Traffic and Telecommunications (Ministry TEATT), Section Transport, would like to inform all Public Transportation Operators (PTOs) that there will be more controls on public transportation forthcoming.
Fines will be issued for detected violations of the Public Transportation Regulation and/or Ordinance. Controls will focus on drivers (PTO license holders) who do not have the required documents in their possession (valid driver’s license, valid public transportation permit- including help driver and assistant driver permits, valid motor vehicle inspection, valid motor vehicle insurance with the legally required insurance coverage) while operating a motor vehicle engaged in public transportation.
In addition, focus will also be placed on PTOs who commit the violation of illegally stopping on the public road and public bus operators who do not have an approved tariff list displaying the fare for a single ride or part thereof visibly posted inside their bus.
Take note that the approved tariff list is listed in article 13 of the National decree on Public Transportation.
The Inspectorate would also like to remind bus operators that these are the maximum approved tariffs that can be charged to the traveling public.
A copy of the public bus tariffs can be downloaded from the government website as well.
For questions, concerns or complaints please visit the Inspectorate of TEATT at Tamarindesteeg #16 (Yellow Building) on the Pondfill, call 5424511 or email the Inspectorate at idez.inquiries@sintmaartengov.org.
