SIMPSON BAY – All is set for the 4th edition of the Toppix Aviation Photography competition, which kicks off Friday, November 4, at the Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA).
The competition, the brainchild of Robert (Robbie) Cijntje and sponsored by PJIA, has seen an increasing number of participants since it was first organized in November 2013.
“Participants will be informed of this year’s theme during the welcome briefing, receive additional details, as well as their SXM goody bag, as is customary,” said Manager Marketing and Customer Service at PJIA Suzy Kartokromo.
The competition starts immediately following the welcome briefing and ends on Friday, November 11, when the winner will be announced at 4:30pm during the St. Maarten Day festivities at the airport.
Participants can register at any time during the competition and are allowed to submit a maximum of 3 photos. A registration fee of US $20 will be collected from participants upon registration.
Photos must be e-mailed to rcijntje@photos.cw and CC to skartokromo@sxmairport.com by 9:00pm on or before November 10, and taken during same period. Photos must depict an aviation-related action at St. Maarten, as per the theme given by the organizing committee, have an aspect ratio of 3:2 and be in landscape format.
The winning photographer will receive a cash prize of US $2,500 and will have their photograph displayed in the arrival hall of PJIA for one year, along with the other 5 finalists.
The competition attracts participants, both locally and from abroad. Previous years’ winners, Bernie Verhoeven and Fiona van Kampen have already confirmed their participation in this year’s competition and are ready to claim their place on the wall, once more.
“There’s no doubt that judging from previous years, all are excited and ready to have some fun, once again,” said Kartokromo.
