PHILIPSBURG – The Ministry of Education Culture, Youth and Sports has launched a logo competition for its ICT in Education project entitled iSTEP.

iSTEP stands for “Inspiring our Students with Technology in Education Project” and aims to include youngsters proactively in the project, starting with a logo competition. The competition is open to all 5th and 6th graders (Group 7 and 8) of all elementary schools and 1st and 2nd formers of all secondary schools on the Dutch side.

The winning prize of the competition is an Apple IPAD and to up the ante, the winning school also gets a prize! However, the biggest prize is the pride in knowing that “you have created the logo for such a pivotal project in our community,” a statement from the Ministry said.

Deadline for submission of logo entries is December 14, and entries should be submitted digitally to istepsxm@gmail.com. Visit the following link: http://tinyurl.com/jemv6t2 to view all competition rules and design requirements. For questions regarding the competition and/or the project, email the iSTEP team at istepsxm@gmail.com.

iSTEP will also be launching its Facebook page soon which will include information on the competition, so look out for that upcoming announcement.

iSTEP is a government initiative and is formerly known as One Tablet Per Child. However, the project has undergone changes and has been revamped and re-launched as iSTEP. It focuses on the integration of ICT in the classrooms and goes beyond just the implementation of tablets, but also other ICT devices and accessories that promote 21st century learning.

The first phase of iSTEP focuses on the implementation of ICT integration in the classrooms of the public schools and in the future will extend support and assistance with ICT integration in the local subsidized schools. The focus is also the training of teachers, including the school boards, which enables the teachers to train others as well
