UPDATE # 2: POLICE REPORT

SUCKERGARDEN, Sint Maarten — On Friday January 6th at approximately 10.45 p.m. 911 Emergency Dispatch received a call of a shooting that had taken place shortly before in the area of the Sucker Garden.

Immediately several police patrols were directed to the scene to investigate what had taken place. On the scene the officers encountered a white Hyundai with license plate P-7712 which had heavily tinted windows. The officers also noticed that the vehicle in question had numerous bullet holes.

Upon opening the doors of the vehicle, the investigating officers encountered a male and a female victim who were not showing any signs of life. The scene was immediately closed off.

Immediately the Detectives and Forensic department were sent to the scene to speak to potential witnesses and to collect evidence.

The victims were pronounced dead on the scene by Dr. Mercuur. The bodies of the victims and the vehicle they were in were confiscated for further investigation. It is still unknown who is responsible for the shooting and why it took place.

The victims have been identified as T. York and S. Martes.

SUCKERGARDEN, Sint Maarten – Six days into the New Year, St. Maarten registered its first double murder case.

On Friday night, January 6, at 10:40pm York and Martes drove into the driveway of a house on Sucker Garden Road in a white Hyundai Elantra with license plates P-7712.

The driver and the occupant did not get a chance to exit, when another unidentified car pulled up close to the driveway and opened fire on the white Elantra. According to witnesses, multiple gunshots were heard. Then the car with the shooter inside drove away.

Police spokesman Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson confirmed that police received a call via Central Dispatch that gunshots were fired in the Sucker Garden area close to the late Eddy York’s house.

Several patrols were dispatched to the mentioned address. When police arrived they encountered a white Hyundai Elantra with multiple bullet holes in the back and side of the car. Inside the car were two lifeless bodies.

Up to early Saturday morning at the crime scene Henson could not release the names of the two victims. However, friends of the victims began putting up messages of grief on the two victims’ Facebook pages.

On Facebook, friends identified the man as Taheba York (31) (FB name: Taheba Samuel) a.k.a. “Mabblow” and the woman as Sabrina Martes.

At the crime scene, several high ranking police officers, the Public Prosecutor, together with the investigating team could be seen talking to persons, who might see something that could help them in this investigation.
