PHIIPSBURG – Representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office and the St. Maarten Police Force met on Monday, March 20, about a joint clampdown on tinted vehicle windows.
A clampdown on dark tinted vehicle windows soon will be combined with intensive monitoring for non-payment of road tax.
Motorists are urged to ensure their vehicles are in accordance with the law on this matter.
This legislation includes, among other things, that the windshield and the windows of the driver and front passenger may be tinted only up to 15 percent. The rear windows may be darker tinted, provided that side mirrors are arranged on both sides of the vehicle.
Motorists, who are not compliant with the legislation, will be fined and will have to remove the tint during the stop in the presence of police.
