PHILIPSBURG – As the Rotary Year 2016-2017 advances in this 4th quarter of the year, the Rotary club of St. Martin Sunrise is celebrating its membership by highlighting a member each week.
This is an effort that commenced in August last year as part of Rotary’s Membership Month, a month of significance when the club seeks various ways to motivate membership and reach out to potential new Rotarians.
In this profile highlight, Rotary Sunrise introduces Rotarian Debbie Karani! Debbie was born in the beautiful country of Guyana, land of many waters. Residing in St. Maarten since 1992, she fell in love with the island, which she considers her home now. Married for 21 years and with two wonderful kids, and her loving husband who has been very supportive towards any decision she has made so far in her life.
Debbie joined Rotary Sunrise a year ago, and in her words, “the amazing things our club has done so far since I have joined, I could not believe it sometimes. We all work as a team, which I really admired about our club. Sometimes I keep telling myself why didn’t I join earlier, but as the saying goes everything comes at its own time.”
Incumbent club president of the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise Drs. Okama Ekpe Brook was elated when Debbie joined the club and she continues to be a positive influence within the club and in the community. Debbie is a fun loving, energetic and a rising star! She brings that energy and more into her role as the Assistant Membership Director in the current board, often helping to organize exciting teambuilding activities for the members.
She will continue to serve on the 2017-2018 board as Community Service Director. President Okama congratulated Debbie as the Club’s Rising Star! The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise celebrates her and encourages the community of St. Maarten to support her efforts to provide greater service in the community.
