THE BOTTOM, Saba — On June 9, the work barge and tugboat from salvage company Koole-Mammoet arrived on Saba. The salvage company had been hired by Rijkswaterstaat to remove the vessel Elsa with minimal damage to the environment.
Since their arrival, the top decks of the stranded craft have been cut and moved to the barge. Currently, the salvagers are working on the hull. The bow of the hull was removed on June 30. Depending on weather and sea conditions, we hope that the entire vessel will be removed in two weeks.
Saba Conservation Foundation will do an end inspection of the sea bottom.
When the vessel is completely removed, the ladder bay trail will reopen, and the dive buoys will be reinstalled.
