Philipsburg, Sint Maarten – On Sunday, July 16, 2017, GEBE encountered some challenges which forced the company to enact safety measures.

A fuel line on engine 18 ruptured causing the engine hall to be flooded with fuel.  For the safety of the employees as well as the units and to avoid serious harm the emergency shutdown protocol was enacted.  Engine 20 was forced to pick up some of the load which caused overheating.

The engine automatically shut down throwing the island in an island wide blackout. The employees worked diligently on restoring electricity as it took two and half hours to get the island up and running again.
