PORT ST. MAARTEN – Due to fire at the Pond Island Landfill, the cruise ship Carnival Fascination that was scheduled to call on Saturday, April 14 will be diverted to another port.
The decision was taken to protect the image of the country and to avoid a negative visitor experience.
The aforementioned decision was made in close consultation with key stakeholders including the Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism & Economic Affairs, and the St. Maarten Tourist Bureau.
On Friday, tires at the Pond Island Landfill caught fire and the Fire Department as well as the company that manages the landfill have been working to contain and extinguish the fire.
