Medical student dies in traffic accident

CUPE a COY, Sint Maarten — On Thursday April 26th at approximately 07.00 the Police Traffic Department and paramedics were sent to Rhine road in Cupe a Coy to investigate a traffic accident involving a scooter rider who was seriously injured.

On the scene the investigating officers encountered the male victim of American nationality and identified with initials J.V.H.P. and who is a medical student at the American University of the Caribbean (A.U.C.) lying on the ground.

He was treated on the scene by paramedics and then transported in very serious condition to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further medical treatment.

The investigating traffic officer concluded that the victim was travelling at too a high speed when he rode over a “traffic bump” at which point he lost control of his scooter and collided with a concrete wall.

At approximately 08.50 p.m. the police department received the news that the victim had died at the medical center of the injuries he sustained.
