POND ISLAND – Destination Sint Maarten/St. Martin is once again profiled in a major U.S. media publication, the USA Today. The most recent feature written by Melanie Reffes under the heading, “Summer’s on sale at luxurious Caribbean resorts,” calls on Americans to check out summer sales and swap those backyard barbecues and buggy city nights for beach bargains and breezy trade winds.
The feature besides highlighting a number of Caribbean destinations, says that destination St. Maarten is up and running with more than 1,000 hotel rooms and 46 villas open, along with many flights which are back on track.
The USA Today feature was published on May 15 in the publication’s Travel section.
Acting Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transportation & Telecommunications (Ministry TEATT) Cornelius de Weever said on Sunday that this type of promotion is a testament to travelers that the destination is recovering and has much to offer on both sides of the island.
“The USA Today has published a number of stories about the destination and this keeps travelers and the travel and tourism trade informed on how we are progressing. This is very important for the destination as we rebound.
“This positive story should lead to an increase in summer bookings to the destination. In the coming months a number of other hotel properties and adjacent hospitality services will be re-opening.
“There are a lot of positive things happening on the island,” Acting Minister of Tourism and Economic Affairs Cornelius de Weever said on Sunday.
