PHILIPSBURG — In recognition of her outstanding performance during the recently held Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Youth Tourism Congress in the Bahamas Junior Minister of Tourism Kiara Meyers was donned with bags of gifts by Tourism Minister the Honourable Stuart Johnson during a surprise visit to her school on Wednesday 24th October.
Minister Johnson visited the Caribbean International Academy (CIA) School and with the help of school Principle Todd Chisholm walked to the Junior Minister’s class where she was surprised to see the delegation which included members of the St. Maarten Tourist Bureau (STB) along with family members and one of her former teachers at her last school.
Minister Johnson spoke briefly to the class and said they should all be very proud of the accomplishments of their fellow classmate who “performed excellently and represented St. Maarten well at the Youth Tourism Congress.” “Kiara with the Country being in need of young leaders, I am pleased and satisfied that you have shown that level of interest in leadership and I wish to encourage the rest of your class and others to take the opportunity to contribute to the betterment of the country,” said Johnson.

The Caribbean Tourism Office (CTO) organises the Youth Tourism Congress each year with students from within the Caribbean region between ages 14 and 17 participating. The program is geared toward creating awareness about Tourism amongst Caribbean youths, and the forum is designed to give them an opportunity to contribute by bringing forward their ideas and vision for the future of Caribbean tourism.
