PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — Minister of Education Culture, Youth and Sport, the Honourable Wycliffe Smith welcomed home eight men who completed their six months of training in Construction programs at the MIC Institute of Technology in Trinidad & Tobago on Wednesday at the Princess Juliana International Airport. The program was a collaborative effort of the Department of Youth, the Division Study Financing, and the Department of Labour and Social Affairs. Trainees earned their MIC-IT Certifications in Plumbing, Electrical Installation, Masonry and Carpentry.
On Monday, October 29, the MIC Institute of Technology held a small graduation ceremony for the Sint Maarteners who successfully completed their 6-month specialised training in Building Construction Technology Level 11. Speaking at the ceremony, Manager of the Workforce Development Centre, Deshaun David, congratulated and commended the trainees. The graduates were encouraged to utilities and embrace their skills to their full potential and maintain their fellowship. Graduates Emran Charles and Wilfred Dunker spoke on behalf of the students, expressing their gratitude towards their MIC-IT Instructors.
On Sint Maarten, MIC-IT continues to collaborate with the National Institute for Professional Advancement (NIPA) in the training of 97 residents in Construction programs. The Government and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport is working along with the board of the local institute to have these programs be fully integrated into the certified training programs available locally.
