UNBELIEVABLE ~~~to say the least~~~

Dear Editor,

It is with great admiration that I watch the interview done by Mr. Oral Gibbs with the Minister of Justice Mr. Lyndon Lewis a few days ago. It was interesting to listen to all that the Minister had to say regarding his position after the results of the last election.

What baffled me (and I guess many others) was the expression by the Minister about the performance of the Chief of Police, Mr. Carl John. The Minister went as far as to say that Mr. John is a professional and that he, the Minister, would even recommend Mr. John to be Minister of Justice. Really? This is outrageous and so unbelievable. Obviously, The Minister buried the hatchet.

The Minister’s popularity comes mostly with his representation in court for many of his former colleagues and officers against the neglect and abuse by the Chief of Police. Even in that same program the Minister made mention of officers not having proper attire, uniforms and shoes and that he, the Minister, had helped many of them with money from his own pocket.

Besides that, when taken up office, it was the Minister who made a bold move and called all officers back to work. The officers that Mr. Carl John has kept home while still collecting their full salary. Our taxpayer money is what Mr. Carl John was playing with instead of doing his job to have them fired if that is what had to be done. That time we gave kudos to the Minister and encouraged the Minister to continue with the good job.

And there are so many more shortcomings experienced by Mr. Carl John, who for some reason had the former Minister of Justice in his pocket. Already in the past we did outline some of these shortcomings being his personal ego, personal agenda, lack of knowledge and ability and lack of managerial skills. There was a situation where one officer did 5 years’ jail time while in receipt of its monthly salary. This was no oversight by the Chief of Police and its management team, but a conscious and willfully done act to favor the condemned officer and his father and uncle who are also senior police officers. It is conspiracy and corruption at its highest level.

Not too long ago I read an article from this same media house regarding the promotion of the chief detective, while there are so many murder cases that remain unsolved. That’s ridiculous. What criteria was used for this promotion?

The Minister of Justice, Mr. Lyndon Lewis, better than no one else, and who was a big victim from the hands of Mr. Carl John, can choose to forgive all what was done to him by Mr. Carl John and that the Minister has a change of heart, is personal and also his prerogative. But in no way should the Minister mix his personal feelings with his position as Minister of Justice and the direct superior of the Chief of Police, that has proven to have no integrity, as it would be hypocritical of the Minister, unfair to the many victims and also unjustifiable to the people of this country that the Minister preaches to serve. I am still baffled.
