Pond Island – The University of St. Martin (USM) presented a plaque of appreciation to multimedia artist and designer Henry Michel for his exceptional work in creating the institution’s 35th anniversary logo. The presentation, held on Friday, November 29, was led by USM President Dr. Antonio Carmona Báez, who also awarded Michel a small prize as a token of gratitude.
The unique logo, which creatively integrates the numbers 3 and 5 with the official USM insignia, was unveiled in January and has since become a defining emblem of the university’s year-long celebrations. Michel, who proudly embraces his Haitian roots, expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to contribute to USM’s milestone and to the country.
Throughout 2024, the anniversary logo symbolized USM’s recommitment to the community, showcased through lectures, public events, and collaborative initiatives with local and regional organizations. USM’s expanding influence in the Caribbean was highlighted during the celebrations, with partnerships secured with the University of Aruba, Instituto Pedagogico Arubano, University of Curaçao, and institutions in Trinidad and Tobago and Cuba. Additionally, the university continues to play a vital role in training educators from the sister islands of Saba and Sint Eustatius.
Dr. Carmona praised Michel’s artistic talent, stating, “St. Martin should feel proud of the diverse talent within our community. Designers like Henry Michel not only enrich USM locally but help bring the name of the University of St. Martin to other shores as well.”
The University of St. Martin extends its heartfelt thanks to Henry Michel for his exceptional contribution, marking a year of achievement and unity for the institution and the wider St. Martin community.
