The Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM) is deeply concerned about a disturbing incident involving two female minors that circulated widely on social media last week.

The viral video, which has sparked outrage, shows a physical altercation between the two young females. In the footage, the larger of the two minors can be seen and heard confronting and accusing the other of having a relationship with her boyfriend, before physically assaulting her. Alarmingly, the incident was recorded by bystanders, believed to be fellow students, rather than being stopped.

The police strongly condemn this violent behavior and the decision by some individuals to record and share such distressing content online. Violence among youth is unacceptable. KPSM has taken action, and the suspect involved in the assault has been arrested and questioned by personnel from the Youth and Morals Department. The investigation remains ongoing.

KPSM urges parents, guardians, and community leaders to engage in open and honest conversations with their children about the consequences of their actions, both online and offline. “It is crucial for young people to understand that violence is never the answer and that recording or encouraging such behavior only contributes to a culture of harm,” The community of Sint Maarten has a responsibility to guide our youth toward positive conflict resolution and respectful interactions.”

The police are committed to addressing issues of youth violence with the seriousness they deserve. Schools, parents, and community members are encouraged to collaborate in fostering a safe environment for all children.
