Second Annual Poker and Bingo Tournament this Friday
PHILIPSBURG, SINT MAARTEN – OCTOBER 19, 2015 – The Rotary Club of St. Maarten had the honor of hosting four generations of Rotary at its weekly lunch meeting on Wednesday, October 14, 2015. According to Rotary Club of St. Maarten President, Jeffrey “SOC” Sochrin, “This is the first time in the history of Rotary on St.Maarten that Earlyact, Interact, Rotaract and Rotary were all present in the same place, at the same time for a regular Club Meeting”. This unprecedented event was chaired by the Earlyact and Interact Clubs of the Learning Unlimited Preparatory School. Sahil Khatnani, President of Learning Unlimited Earlyact summed it up best when he said, “The day was fun and I was very happy to be there”.
President Soc went onto explain, “The Rotary Club of St.Maarten, strives to give all members of our community an opportunity to serve and to provide Service Above Self. We hope such opportunities increase awareness and knowledge of the community and help our young leaders develop the necessary leadership skills to serve in a positive way. Earlyact Clubs can be found in primary schools for children ages 5-13. One Earlyact Club currently exists on St. Maarten at Learning Unlimited Preparatory School. Mutliple Interact Clubs can be found in High Schools on the island catering to students ages 13-18. Two Rotaract Clubs operate on St. Maarten/St. Martin and bring together responsible young adults, ages 18-30. And finally, four Rotary Clubs exist on St. Maarten/St. Martin to engage industry leaders age 30 and over. All the clubs focus on using fellowship as a means and opportunity to serve our respective communities. “
District Rotaract Representative Marzeta Bodden addressed the Clubs during her official visit to the island. Ms. Bodden said, “It gives me great pleasure to see all the different members of the Rotary Family under one roof. Moments like this are far and few between and clearly demonstrates the power of working together as one Rotary team to serve our community”.
President Soc continued, “One such opportunity to get involved with the Rotary Club of Sint Maarten and to serve our community is coming up this Friday, October 23rd. The Rotary Club of St. Maarten is hosting its Second Annual Texas Hold-em Poker and Bingo Tournaments at the Hollywood Casino. Tickets are US $100 donation and include a buffet dinner, two drinks and many great prizes including a cash first prize. All proceeds will be used for youth, health, education and community development projects. So see any Rotarian to get your ticket while they last”.
