PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — Junior Chamber International JCI Dutch Caribbean held its National Convention on 15th of October through the 17th of October, 2015. LIVE Soualiga; Leaders, Innovation Vibrant of Equality is Soualiga is the newest chapter of the JCI Dutch Caribbean. Our name selection is referring back to the rich Heritage of Sint Maarten by coining the historical name of “Soualiga” we are recapturing that rich heritage of Sint Maarten that will usher us into a new era of excellence.
Our name represents our identity and the impact we wish to see, our organisation have in the local community. Our “new chapter” status was recognized by the JCI Dutch Caribbean and received the blessings from the other local organizations of Curacao, Bonaire, and Aruba. We were granted a period of 1 year to be fully affiliated with the Dutch Caribbean. The local organization within the Dutch Caribbean and the National organization will give all the necessary support and guide in making this new chapter a great success.
The incoming president Delmarie York –Cornelius has presented the Plan of action for the year 2016 during the conference at the General Assembly meeting. The theme for our Plan of Action is MYC: creating a mouthpiece for our Members, our Youth and our Community. By creating an atmosphere of equality which is needed to create a good membership basis. By providing our youths with programs that help them navigate the obstacles of life. JCI Soualiga will offers our youths the right tools needed to help them become productive members in our society. By being a vehicle of change in our community, tackling social issues that are plaguing our local society and offering solutions.
The new chapter was represented by the incoming President Delmarie York, Vice President Anthony Mcclean and JCI LIVE Youth Public Speaking Winner D’Shnay York who participated in the JCI Dutch Caribbean Speech contest.
