~ Gunshot went off in the building, Woman held hostage at gunpoint as robbers clean Western Union ~

wu 2-001PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten – One of the island’s leading money transfer business located in Cole Bay was robbed on Saturday morning.

The robbery is said to have taken place at around 11am.

At this time it is not clear exactly how many persons were involved in the robbery however it is being reported that many persons were traumatized as a result of the violent attack on Saturday morning.

The incident was confirmed by the police spokesman Chief inspector Ricardo Henson.

Inspector Henson later issued a report which can be read below.

The Detective dept. is presently investigating an armed robbery, which took place at Western Union in Cole Bay at approximately 10.40. a.m. on Saturday December 12th.

The first call came to the Emergency Dispatch informing them that two armed men had entered the establishment and committed the act.

According to information shots were also fired in the establishment during the robbery but no one was injured. After committing this act the suspect fled the scene.

It is still unclear how the suspects fled the scene and what they took from the establishment.

Detectives and Forensic Department were at the location questioning witnesses and collecting evidence. Much details regarding this robbery is still unavailable.

When more information becomes available the media will be informed.
