MIDDLE REGION – The Middle Region and Defiance Community Council is proud to announce the celebration of their day.
The council had declared June 21 as Middle Region and Defiance Day. “This year we will be celebrating our day on Sunday, June 26, due to the fact that June 21, fell on a Tuesday. This is a day where we are inviting all the residents of these two districts to come and celebrate this, your special day,” said President of the Council Angelica Chittick.
“It is also a day where we get to know our neighbors better. Many times we live in a community and we don’t even know who lives next to us. An invitation is also extended to the general public as we expect this day to grow bigger and bigger every year with your continued support,” continued Chittick.
On Sunday, June 26, “we are organizing many activities such as wheel barrow races, running races, jumping in the bag, tug-o-war, and of course, the highlight of the events is always our basketball one-day knock-out. All these activities start from 10:00am and ends at 8:00 pm,” she explained.
“To the basketball players, we expect you to acquire a registration form from any of the members of the community council to participate in the knock-out. Let’s show them what a real basketball knock-out is all about. If you think the Golden State Warriors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers was a nail biting game seven, then prepare for a thrilling knock-out this Sunday, June 26, in Middle Region at the Alec ‘the Butcher’ Richardson Basketball court,” Chittick stated.
“This is a very special year as together with the Shoot Hoops No Guns program, we are celebrating this day. There will be some interesting games for ages 12-17 and 18-26, and then the thriller 26 plus. Music will be provided by the bands Da Big Bad Xp from Middle Region, Nuff Respect and DJ Sheff. There will be lots to drink and snack on during this festive Middle Region and Defiance Day celebration,” she said.
“We will be closing off the Middle Region Road from the Hulda B. Richardson Road until Ellis Drive as there will be no through traffic. Come and show the rest of St. Maarten how we celebrate Middle Region and Defiance Day this Sunday, June 26, from 10:00am until 8:00pm,” she stated.
The Community Council also extended an invitation to all the residents and visitors of St. Maarten to come and celebrate this day with them.
