Following a highly anticipated and stiff competition between regional and local artistes in the Road Town Festival Grounds, BVI’s Jevaughn “JJ” Parsons, was crowned the 2016 Soca Monarch, this morning, Sunday, July 24.
The annual FLOW Soca Monarch competition was held under the theme ‘BVI Meets Insomnia’. JJ’s winning song was ‘Colours’.
The first runner up went to BVI’s B’More, and BVI’s TJ was second runner up; while only one regional artiste won a prize—King Vers of St. Maarten, who was placed third runner up and also won best performer.
Another major highlight of the show was performance from Jamaica’s Charly Black, whose soca dancehall crossover track ‘Gyal You A Party Animal’ continues to climb the Billboard charts.
This was his first appearance in the BVI, and the dancehall artiste did not disappoint.
Other participants were: Pascal-BVI, Sekon Sta-Trinidad, Milla-Dominica, Hashim-BVI, Blade-St. Kitts, Mr. Mention-St.Kitts, Lioness-Anguilla, Loose Canoon-Grenada, Drastic-BVI/Antigua, Mad Skull-St. Vincent, Teejay-BVI, Kelly Jr.-USVI, Shiloh-BVI and Capable-BVI.
