CAY HILL – Last weekend, during the Oualichi International Summer Soccer Camp, Alejandra Corona won a spot to train at a professional Belgian football camp, organised by Progress Sports.

The Oualichi summer camp has been a yearly event since 2013, and this year marked the second year that Oualichi collaborated with Progress Sports.

Progress Sports brought in coaches from England, the Netherlands and Belgium. They coached the children together with Oualichi coaches Dagmar Daal and Alexandra den Ouden. The camp was very successful with over 50 children registering for a 3-day event that took place on July 22-24.

“It is the second time we are able to send a talented young player to train at a European camp. It will also be the first female player that we are sending to Europe to train,” commented Oualichi Youth head coach Dagmar Daal.

Oualichi WSA hopes that for next year it will be able to organize the same platform with more European coaches coming to St. Maarten to train local children in an intensive training programme.

Corona, who attends the Caribbean International Academy (CIA) and is 17 years old, joined Oualichi WST last month and played last year in the High School Soccer Competition. She will travel next summer to Belgium for her chance to practice with some of the best coaches in Europe.
