Young child dies in traffic accident

The Police Traffic Department is presently investigating a fatal traffic accident of an almost 3-year-old boy, which took place on Saturday, August 20, at approximately 9:30am in front of the main building of the Princess Juliana International Airport.

At the time of the accident the child was crossing the street, and was struck fatally by an AVIS shuttle bus. The accident scene, which attracted the attention of many persons was immediately closed off for the Traffic Department to question potential witnesses, and for the Forensic Department to collect evidence.

Dr. Mercuur arrived on the scene shortly after, and pronounced the death of the victim. Parents of the victim, and the driver of the vehicle are all being questioned in connection with investigation. No arrests have been made thus far in the investigation.

SIMPSON BAY, St. Maarten — The Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIAE) is disheartened to learn of the unfortunate incident that resulted in the death of a child.

This took place on Saturday in the frontal area of the airport in the early morning hours. PJIAE has the safety and security of all its passengers, visitors and employees as its top priority and is assisting the local authorities, which are leading the investigation.

PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten – An area in-front of the Princess Juliana International Airport was cordoned off Saturday morning as an investigation into a gruesome accident began.

Reports reaching our news room Saturday morning states that a child seemingly 3 to 4 years old was fatally run over by a AVIS transport bus.

The fatal accident took place minutes past 9am.

Eye witnesses say its a gruesome scene that has impacted the lives of all who saw it. At this point it is not known if the child is local or belongs to a visiting parent. The investigation to officially determine the details of the accident is now ongoing.
