CUL-DE-SAC, Sint Maarten  — The branch manager of Inselair, based in St. Maarten, and a former female clerk are under investigation for alleged embezzlement of thousands of dollars from the company.

Early last week, Inselair sent a team to St. Maarten to investigate accounting discrepancies. The monies did not correspond with the final count at the branch in St. Maarten.

The surprise investigation led to the discovery of two employees, whose final paperwork did not correspond with actual numbers and deposits where never done. Last week, the investigating team filed an official complaint with the Fraud Department of the local police force.

721news received confirmation from the Prosecutor’s Office that an official complaint was indeed filed and two employees were now under investigation for alleged embezzlement.

When 721news inquired as to what the figure was that was allegedly embezzled, and if any arrests had been made, Spokesman Gino Bernadina said no further details could be released at this time because the case was under investigation.

Sources told 721news that the one of the employees (branch manager) were suspended until further notice and the other was fired. A memo from the General Management of InselAir was officially released announcing that as of Aug 18 the female employee was no longer in service at InselAir St Maarten. Therefore she is not authorized to represent InselAir in general.

In the meantime, 721news reached out to Chief General and International Affairs of InselAir Edward Heerenveen, at Inselair’s main office in Curaçao for comment, but he was unavailable at the time and never returned 721news’ calls.
