PHILIPSBURG – On October 4, Hurricane Matthew made landfall in Haiti as a category 4 storm.

Hurricane Matthew has caused severe damage and left over 1,000 fatalities in its wake. Red Cross St. Maarten is therefore opening its relief accounts at the Windward Islands Bank 80980900 NAF and 80980902 USD in order for the community to send emergency relief funds to Haiti.

All monies received will be transferred to the Netherlands Red Cross, who will add it to the Haiti relief effort.

“Please be mindful that we are only accepting financial donations at this time. We urge persons with relief materials to contact the various organizations, who are collecting items to send to Haiti directly as we are not in the position to ship at this time.

The Board and staff of Red Cross St. Maarten expresses our heartfelt condolences to the people of Haiti,” the Red Cross said in a statement.
