ima-donation-to-haiti-001PHILIPSBURG – The Indian Merchants Association (IMA) along with all sections of the Indian community in St. Maarten – businesses and households – donated relief supplies for the hurricane-ravaged population of Haiti.

Various organizations like the Indian Kids Community Service Club (IKCSC), Nirankari Mission, businesses like Majesty Jewelers, Prime Distributors, Divico Distributors, Kams Trading, Classic Electronics, Alpha Jewels, Boolchands, Affordable Department Store, and Penny’s, consolidated their efforts to help the victims of Hurricane Matthew, which ravaged Haiti with torrential rains and flooding that killed almost 900 people and left tens of thousands homeless.

ima-donation-to-haiti-004In light of the devastation, community and many businesses spearheaded by the IMA got together and collectively contributed donations, which were used to procure bottled water, canned vegetables, other canned goods, basic supplies and groceries needed  to survive through this calamity in the effected region of Haiti. Many merchants donated clothes, blankets, shoes, just to name a few, for this good cause.

Goods equivalent to a 40-foot container were delivered and offloaded by kids of IKCSC, who then helped load these into the container located on Pond Fill road in the presence of president of United Haitian Community in St. Maarten Lamicia Celicus and Social Worker ima-donation-to-haiti-004Kevin Maingrette.

The container will be shipped next week to Republic of Haiti and the freight charges will be borne by persons within the community.

The entire Indian community offers its condolences to the persons who perished in the hurricane and prays for a speedy recovery of Haiti.
