GREAT BAY – The Court in First Instance sentenced Shawn Emmanuel Benders on Wednesday to a 4-month prison sentence for fencing a stolen car on November 29 of last year. Benders was found driving the car with Veon Aaron P. in the passenger seat. The latter was also charged, but the court acquitted him.

Benders told the court he had bought the car for $300 and that he owed the seller another $100.

The court found no proof that the 22-year old Benders had actually stolen the car.

The prosecutor demanded 5 months against Benders and 90 days, with 70 days suspended for his co-defendant, but the judge arrived at a different decision.
