SMVTS students visit NIPA

1968

CAY HILL – On January 27, students from the St. Maarten Vocational Training School (SMVTS) visited NIPA, accompanied by their Teacher Jane Simon.

At 9:00am the group was given a tour of the NIPA facilities and NIPA culinary instructors Alexander Adoptie, better known as Chef X, and Renata de Weever, shared some information on what NIPA has to offer for the upcoming school year.

Once the tour ended, the SMVTS students went into the NIPA kitchen, where they took part in a practical culinary class taught by NIPA instructors where they received guidance from NIPA culinary students.

The students not only prepared lunch, they got the opportunity to dine in the NIPA restaurant and enjoy what they had prepared along with NIPA Interim Director Tasheena Maccow-Thomas. Lunch consisted of a three-course meal, which included a starter of a house salad with strawberry vinaigrette, a main course of chicken or fish served with mashed potatoes and glazed carrots and a dessert of homemade ice cream served with a fruit medley.

SMVTS students were very happy at the end of the day and proud of the dishes they created. Many of the SMVTS students expressed their excitement about joining NIPA and taking part in these type of classes on a regular basis.
