PHILIPSBURG – For the third year in a row, the K1 Britannia Foundation will be participating in SXM DOET. This year, two special projects will be hosted and geared towards vulnerable groups on Saturday, March 11.
The “Fun Day With Foster Children” project will host 40 foster children from New Start, Hope Outreach, and children under protective custody placed in individual homes. Over 40 volunteers have chosen to spend their Saturday with the children to create great memories and connections.
Antillean Liquors have come on board and have sponsored lunch, drinks, and snacks for the day as well as participating as volunteers. The Alpha Leo Club has also signed up as a group to volunteer for the day. The project’s goals are to connect the community to this target group of foster children, increase awareness, create great memories and show the power a little time, love and attention can have on children.
The “Help At Home” project, teenagers under the foster care and probationary systems participating in the K1 Britannia Foundation Work, Training and Social Development (WTSD) Program will be visiting some of the elderly residents of St. Maarten to assist with household chores, gardening and basic renovation alongside volunteers. The activity is geared towards helping build bridges between young adults and elderly members of the community. To show the value of teenagers volunteering to help the lives of others.
The K1 Britannia Foundation has a great focus through its volunteer program and believes in SXM DOET’s mission to help improve the general idea of volunteering and community service by showing how fun and creative it can really be.
