PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — In a press release from NV GEBE, it was stated that on Sunday May 21, 2017, at around 12:23pm, parts of the island experienced an interruption in power.
The Engineers at the Power Plant responded immediately and upon investigation established that one of the engines tripped because of high temperature which also caused one of the larger engines to lose its load at the time causing the outage. Restoration started taking place immediately and power was periodically restored to the affected areas. By 1:41pm the last cable was reenergized.
NV GEBE apologises for the interruption any convenience this may have caused. Work is being carried out on the unit that tripped, to have it back in operation soonest. In the interim the units that are in standby are in operation to ensure power remains on.
