PHILIPSBURG – The Soualiga Corporate Toastmasters Club facilitated 13 employees of the Court of Guardianship for a six-session speechcraft program, which allowed experienced Toastmasters to present the fundamentals of public speaking to non-members.

The program was conducted throughout the month of May, and participants were given the unique opportunity to learn public speaking and evaluation skills in a safe and supportive environment.

Given the participants’ line of work, the program was geared towards improving their problem solving, impromptu speaking, listening, social and critical thinking skills, which promises to help them in their daily work activities. Participants were able to speak before small and large audiences, effectively evaluate the meeting and speeches, introduce speakers and gain confidence in public speaking while engaged in team building.

The speechcraft ended with a graduation ceremony where participants displayed their newly acquired knowledge and skills before their family, friends and seasoned Toastmasters.

The Soualiga Corporate Toastmasters Club is the only corporate club on the island designed for civil servants of St. Maarten. Meetings are held at 5:30pm on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of every month at the New Government Administration Building.
