Philipsburg, August 28, 2017The Charlotte Brookson Academy of the Performance Arts is gearing up for their first Student Government Elections to be held on Thursday Aug 31, 2017. This is the first time the Academy has ever held elections to establish their Student Government. In this process, students can postulate themselves or be nominated by their fellow students for the positions of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Public Relations Officer, Community Service Officer and Board Membership. Membership in the Student Government is for a period of one (1) year. The key criteria for membership in the Student Government Council include: academic and performance art excellence, passionate personality, role model, good speaker, and exemplary behaviour.

As part of one of the activities leading up to the elections, the Organizing Committee arranged a Motivational workshop for the ten (10) candidates and for the 4th and 5th formers on Friday August 25, 2017 at the school Media room.

“We strongly believe that the students should know the importance of having a strong campaign, being a role model, know the purpose of leadership skills and having an exemplary behavior and for some of these key criteria the organizing committee selected Member of Parliament (MP), the honorable Mr. Irion Ardwell” stated Ms. Nzinga Lake, member of the Organizing Committee.

In his presentation to the candidates, Member of Parliament Mr. Ardwell stressed the importance of being the voice for each student of the Charlotte Brookson Academy. He also briefed the students on his decision to postulate himself for the 2015 Parliamentary Elections, how it has impacted him to be more grounded and dedicated to serve his community. MP Ardwell gave a descriptive breakdown of each position and their responsibilities.

Visual art student Jeremiah David presented his art piece entitled “A Leader beyond our Universe” to MP Ardwell as a thank you gift on behalf of the student body. In the end, MP Ardwell left a positive and strong impression on the candidates and students.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, our Director Mrs. Forsthye- Labega, Management , Teachers, Students and Organizing Committee,  we would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Irion Ardwell for taking the time out to motivate and empower our candidates and students.
