Suspect renounces right to vehicle, pays transaction

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — The Sint Maarten Asset Recovery Team (Afpakteam) seized a car on the Anna’s Hope Estate in Belvedere on Sint Maarten on Wednesday, August 15, 2018. The investigation is called “PEN”. The suspect J.E.A.F. has been offered a transaction by the Public Prosecutor,’s Office (OM) of Sint Maarten which she accepted.

The transaction means that the suspect waives the right to the seized vehicle and that the suspect will not be prosecuted for money laundering.

The car will now be sold and the proceeds will benefit the country Sint Maarten. In doing so, criminal proceeds have been recovered without a time-consuming criminal investigation.

The Sint Maarten Asset Recovery Team is a collaboration between the Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM), the Sint Maarten Tax Authority, Customs, the Coast Guard, and the Public Prosecutor’s Office Sint Maarten.
