POND ISLAND, Sint Maarten – Representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Traffic & Telecommunications, Economic Licenses and Inspectorate recently attended the Caribbean Association of Gaming Regulation (CAGR) 6th Annual Caribbean & Americas Gaming Regulation Forum (CAGRF).
The forum brought together between October 31 – November 2 regulators, casino operators, online gaming operators, law enforcement, public prosecutors, tax and revenues authorities, accountancy firms, banks servicing the gaming industry, legal counsel, compliance and financial professionals.
The aforementioned attendees discussed challenges, opportunities and the latest developments related to the global gaming industry.
The three main topics of discussion that were elaborated on by various speakers were: Regional developments & Challenges in Regulatory Compliance; Automation, Data and Risk; Implications for Supervision & Regulatory Policy.
Minister of Tourism & Economic Affairs Stuart Johnson said that his ministry is in the process of gathering information with respect to international trends and developments related to regulation of the gaming and lottery industry as these are dynamic and ever-evolving sectors.
“It is the intention of this Government to put in place the necessary regulatory framework that looks at gaming regulation in the context of regional growth, improved transparency, and greater social responsibility.
“The process embarked upon is part of our Governing Program to establish a Gaming Control Board. Government is committed to fight money laundering and complying with international laws and standards where they apply to the gaming industry. This effort is an overall effort as can be seen from the attendees that came from the Caribbean, Latin America and the United States,” Minister of Tourism & Economic Affairs Stuart Johnson said on Wednesday.
Some of the countries in attendance were: Antigua, Aruba, Bahamas, Belize, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Guyana, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Sint Maarten, St Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks & Caicos, USA, and US Virgin Islands.
The CAGR was founded in 2014, with the hope of growing year-on-year into a successful industry body and dependable resource for its diverse members to exchange information, share ideas, and actively collaborate on a central platform.
The CAGRF took place at the Eden Roc Miami Beach Hotel in Florida.
