SIMPSON BAY, Sint Maarten — In what will be planned visits to various primary schools, Dr. Dick Wong Chung, one of the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialists at St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC), visited Sr. Regina Primary School recently. Dr. Wong Chung spoke to the students of Group 7 and 8 about preventing hearing damage, explaining to the children the dangers of exposure to loud noise in an effort to hopefully prevent future hearing damage.

Dr. Wong Chung showed what Tinnitus can sound like and the students were also asked to make as much noise as they could, what was measured with a decibel meter. The students were intrigued by Dr. Wong Chung’s visit and bombarded him with questions about hearing in general, loud music and the use of ear phones.

Dr. Wong Chung is one of the ENT specialists that serve on a rotational basis at the recently opened Eye Care Clinic which is located at SMMC’s Care Complex. The clinic is outfitted with state of the art ENT equipment, which is in line with SMMC’s continuing mission of providing ‘Quality Care, Close To Home’.
