POND ISLAND, Sint Maarten – The Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA), recently announced new appointments to the helm of the FCCA effective January 1, 2019.

Micky Arison, chairman of Carnival Corporation & plc, has been named the incoming chairman of the association and FCCA Executive Committee, comprised of presidents or above representing FCCA Member Lines, and Albino Supino Di Lorenzo, vice president of cruise operations of MSC

Cruises USA, has been named the incoming chairman of the FCCA Operations Committee, which includes numerous high-level operational cruise executives and frequent meetings with destinations and stakeholders.

Minister of Tourism & Economic Affairs Stuart Johnson extends congratulations to Arison and Di Lorenzo with respect to their appointments within the cruise body.

FCCA Member Lines operate about 200 vessels and 95 percent of the global ocean cruising capacity.  The FCCA is the trade association that represents the mutual interests between cruise destinations and stakeholders in the Caribbean and Latin America and FCCA Member Lines.

Created in 1972, the FCCA is a not-for-profit trade organization that provides a forum for discussion on tourism development, ports, safety, security, and other cruise industry issue and builds bilateral relationships with destinations’ private and public sectors.

By fostering an understanding of the cruise industry and its operating practices, the FCCA works with governments, ports and private sector representatives to maximize cruise passenger, crew and cruise line spending, as well as enhance the destination experience and increase the amount of cruise passengers returning as stay-over visitors.

“Cruise destination Sint Maarten looks forward to continuing the great strategic relationship we have with the FCCA, and we look forward to working with the Executive Committee and Operational Committee to further strengthen the existing relationship in 2019 and to look at new opportunities despite challenges in this competitive global cruise market.

“The FCCA and its Member Lines have been an integral part of destination Sint Maarten’s cruise success.  Continuous engagement as has been the approach of Port St. Maarten Management with the cruise industry is a necessity in order to continue with the recovery as cruise passengers continue to rediscover the island.

“We can look forward to 2019 with much confidence as we work with the FCCA in partnership of continued long-term mutual success,” Minister of Tourism & Economic Affairs Stuart Johnson said on Wednesday.

Destination Sint Maarten via Port St. Maarten has been part and parcel of the FCCA ‘Caribbean Is Open/Caribbean for Everyone’ campaign, which began in September 2017 after the devastating hurricanes Irma and Maria.

The campaign since its establishment has generated more than 5.77 billion impressions and shown a measurable improvement in Caribbean cruise bookings, according to the FCCA.
