PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten — lovers at home and abroad can now join thousands across the globe in voting for the island to be the USA Today’s “Best Caribbean Island for Romance.”
Each year the USA Today’s Readers’ Choice Awards travel experts choose twenty of the top countries worldwide as nominees in contests covering food, destinations, lodging and a host of other topics and give their readership an opportunity to vote for the destination of their choice in each category.
Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport & Telecommunication (TEATT) the Honourable Stuart Johnson said that the people of St. Maarten should be proud of the effort they have made to rebuild thus far. He said, “The fact that we have been selected as a nominee from amongst destinations worldwide means that St. Maarten’s unique value to visitors is unmistakable.”
The work to rebuild our tourism economy should not stop as the entire world is watching and waiting for our next innovation. “After all we are the Caribbean destination that is often envied because of its developments such as the Promenade on the Great Bay Beach in Philipsburg, the world’s steepest Zip Line, the most beautiful Causeway in the Caribbean, and our unique and exciting entertainment and nightlife.”
This year St. Maarten/St. Maarten is a nominee in the category of Best Caribbean Island for Romance. The USA Today’s promotion of this year’s USA Today 10 Best Readers’ Choice 2019, describes St. Maarten/St. Martin as “two nations, two names, two cultures, one island.” A further description of the island says “on St. Maarten/St. Martin, French and Dutch culture exist side-by-side on a compact 37 square mile island, complemented by wonderful beaches and a lively nightlife. Each side offers a completely different, but equally romantic, vacation experience.”
The public is encouraged to log on to USA Today’s Readers’ Choice Top 10 and vote for St. Maarten.
