MADAME ESTATE, Sint Maarten – The board of the teachers union met with a large group of teachers at its head quarters in Madame Estate on Thursday evening.
The emergency meeting was called after the news broke of the young Student who pelted a rock at his teacher on Wednesday injuring the female teacher who was transported to the emergency room for treatment.
In the meeting, teachers stood in strong solidarity with the PWAS teacher who was injured. They also strongly condemned violence against teachers by students. They expressed concern that authorities are not addressing their pleas for something to be done about violence against teachers. The WITU board headed by President Claire Elshot will meet with the Minister of Education this Friday to discuss the matter. Many teachers attended the meeting and they anxiously await word the outcome of Fridays meeting to determine how to proceed.
